Why donations?
I thought of donations as pretty distasteful myself, but Volunteer Tibet suggests it as a way to make a long-term volunteer stint possible. I started googling about fund raising and found that MANY volunteer organizations support and encourage it. I still wrinkle my nose a bit at the thought of it but someone pointed something out to me. There are people out there that wish to do something as I am but can’t simply because they have so many modern-day commitments, financial, family and other. So donate a buck.
Yes, I’m selling everything. I’m even going to take pictures and post them here for sale. Car included! And what a beautiful specimen of Japanese automotive engineering she is, circa 1996. I love her. Planned to drive her till she gave the death rattle. But you know, there comes a time when you know in your heart you must part with something for a better cause. Her selling points will be her “Free Tibet” bumper sticker, her quiet engine and her 35 mpg.
I have zero fear and zero doubt that this will all work out. Being at peace with a decision is such a great feeling. I go to Dharamsala with or without donations but I hope to raise enough money to cover my air fare, the rest goes to the nuns for as long as the website remains. This weblog will become a permanent gift to them and I hope to teach them how to maintain it while I’m there if they are interested. If not, I have a little labor of love to remind me of my great time with them.
